HK. CHAMPION DALRANNOCH CITIZEN KANE TO CHANDHALLY (IMPORT Australia)
Duke as a 10 week old puppy in the Gatfield’s garden in Sydney, Australia
Duke was born on 17th January 1994 during one of Sidney’s (Australia) worst thunder storms. He was one of 11 puppies.

The Dalrannoch play mates in Australia Duke -far right -the one who smiles..
I wanted a male from Australia and searched high and low. I finally contacted the Dalmatian Club of Australia and duly got in touch with Mr John Gatfield.
We had photo’s and videos sent to us. Well we finally saw the potential with this handsome black and white dog. He had the ability to look down his nose at you, even as a puppy.A very arrogant and proud looking boy. They called him Orson but that got changed as soon as we knew we could have him.
Duke was shown in Australia in his early days (3 to 6 months) and if he didn’t win his class he would be second .
The poor thing was finally sent by air to Hong Kong and we were greeted by this confident grinning puppy sitting in his Sky Travel Kennel. He charmed everybody with his friendly behaviour, including the chinese staff at Kai Tak Airport and that is some achievement..

Dad: Washakie Indianapolis Mum- Aust.Ch Dalrannoch Manon Lescaut
He settled in really fast and if he did miss his mother, Aust Ch. Dalrannoch Manon Lescaut it was soon forgotten. Ida mothered him in every way, with washes from top and tail. He only had one problem with Ida and that was food.As Duke was a very slow eater, one of the few Dalmatians who actually tasted his food.We had to feed him separate from Ida so that she wouldn’t take his food.
Duke did very little damage around the place. He was quite happy with the odd Video and remote controle. He never stole food nor raided bins.He would just quietly stand there and watch and see if something came his way.He was also very gentle when it came to taking food from the hand.Unlike his “mother Ida” where you had to count your fingers afterwards.
Duke and Ida
Duke teamed up with Vicky, and he obviously decided at an early age that “I am her protector” . Where Vicky went he went with her. It was very touching. Especially if we had thunder or typhoons, he would seek her out. I think he was the one who needed protection. He never got rid of his fear for loud noises.
Duke and Ida in HK
We entered a number of dog shows in Hong Kong and he was unbeaten in puppy and junior. When Duke was made a Champion he stayed unbeaten until we left Hong Kong. Duke had a number of group placing’s.We finally moved back to UK in 1996 and Duke and Ida had to spend 6 months in quarantine. The worst time of our life!!!
When he came out we entered some championship shows with some success here in UK.
It was Ireland that really made him up. He never put a foot wrong. At the championship shows he seemed to be on a winning run. He won Green stars, Reserve Green Stars, BIS All Ireland Dalmatian Club Championship Show, Groups again at Championship shows, numerous BOB’s, RBOB’s, C.A.C.I.B’s with Excellent
Duke was retired from the show ring in UK as he obviously didn’t enjoy the stress associated with benching and shows. He really enjoyed the shows in Ireland as they are so relaxed and kept out doors.
He loved the forest, the river and the beaches and would run for ever chaising the seabirds or trying to catch an incoming wave.
Duke was only used a few times at stud. His offspring has turned out to be good ambassadors of the breed. He mated Dalregis La Serenata ( litter sister to Ida) and we got MOSS.He would curl up in her bed in his last year of life and really enjoy her companionship as he missed Ida an awful lot.
Sky, Moss and Duke in UK
Duke found relief from the pain and suffering that came upon him so fast. on 18th January 2004. A shock to us all as he was too young to leave the world of the living.
